Dior Homme Intense is the connoisseur's pick — a refined, powdery iris-and-woods scent for formal evenings that fragrance enthusiasts rate as one of the best designer compositions ever released. It is also the one bottle on this list that a man who wears fresh scents may not enjoy, so give it to someone with taste you already understand. Sauvage EDP is the opposite bet: the warmer, longer-lasting version of the world's most popular fragrance, and a near-certain hit for a man who already wears the EDT. The winter statements
Viktor&Rolf Spicebomb Extreme, Azzaro The Most Wanted and Jean Paul Gaultier Le Male are the cold-weather crowd-pleasers of the designer tier — spice, boozy sweetness and vanilla respectively — and all three are, by owner consensus, heavily complimented. Paco Rabanne 1 Million is the brash going-out scent in a gold-bar bottle, which is either the most gift-shaped object on this page or slightly much, depending entirely on the recipient.
