A sample is a tiny manufacturer vial, usually under 2 ml — enough for one or two wears. A decant is a larger amount (5–10 ml) hand-poured from a genuine full bottle into a travel atomizer, which gets you weeks of real wear. How to test a scent so it actually tells you something

The top notes you smell in the first minute disappear fastest — do not judge a fragrance by them. Spray it on skin (not a paper strip), wait, and check it at the one-hour, four-hour and eight-hour marks to learn how the heart and base develop and how long it lasts on you.
