Bleu de Chanel vs Versace Dylan Blue

Bleu de Chanel vs Versace Dylan Blue

Buy Versace Dylan Blue. For most people, most of the time, it does the same job as Bleu de Chanel — a clean, fresh-woody blue fragrance for work, weekends and everything in between — at a fraction of the money, with a community rating close behind the Chanel's and ahead of some of its concentrations. Bleu de Chanel is the better composition and the better bottle to own if you want that smell specifically, and the honest way to find out is a sample vial rather than a full bottle. Armaf Club de Nuit Blue Iconic is the budget route to the Bleu lane if the Chanel is the shape you want and the price is the obstacle.

They are not actually the same fragrance

The shared association is the color of the box, not the composition. Bleu de Chanel is a citrus-aromatic built over a smoky incense, cedar and amberwood base — dry, slightly austere, deliberately restrained. Dylan Blue, created by Alberto Morillas and launched in 2016, is a bergamot, grapefruit, water-note and fig-leaf opening over ambroxan, black pepper, patchouli, violet leaf and papyrus, finishing on incense, musk, tonka bean and saffron. It is sweeter, fruitier and more immediately likeable. Where Bleu de Chanel is a quiet suit, Dylan Blue is a good shirt.

That difference matters more than any price argument. If you have smelled both and you prefer the Chanel, no amount of value reasoning should talk you out of it. If you have smelled neither, the odds favor Dylan Blue being the one you reach for more often, because the sweeter, rounder profile is easier to wear without thinking about it.

Read that table honestly and the gap is real but small — roughly a quarter of a star on Fragrantica and a few tenths on Parfumo's performance axes. Then put the live prices next to it. The Chanel is not several times the fragrance; it is a slightly better fragrance at several times the price, which is a perfectly reasonable thing to buy and a bad thing to buy blind.

Which one is for you

Buy Dylan Blue if you want one versatile bottle for work and weekends, you like a little sweetness, and you would rather spend the difference on a second fragrance. It is also the easier of the two to wear in warm weather.

Buy Bleu de Chanel ifyou specifically want the dry, smoky, slightly austere character, you wear fragrance in formal settings, or the house itself matters to you — which is a legitimate reason, just not a performance one. Buy the Parfum concentration rather than the EDT: the community scores separate clearly between them, and the 2010 EDT is the weakest-rated member of the line at 4.18 against the Parfum's 4.45.

Buy neither if what you actually want is the blue-fresh idea at the lowest possible price. In that case go straight to the Bleu de Chanel dupes, where the cheapest honest option in that lane is ranked properly.

Versace Versace Dylan Blue

A versatile fresh-woody all-rounder

Versace Dylan Blue

Fresh / Woody AromaticEDTStrongYear-round
7.6/10

The grown-up Versace — a fresh woody-aromatic with a faintly ambery, slightly sweet base. It keeps the brand's strong projection but dials the sugar back, which makes it far more versatile and office-friendly than Eros. A genuinely good all-rounder.

Chanel Chanel Bleu de Chanel Parfum (1.5 ml sample vial)

Trying Bleu de Chanel safely before you commit

Chanel Bleu de Chanel Parfum (1.5 ml sample vial)

Woody / AromaticParfum1.5 ml sample vialYear-round
7.6/10

Chanel keeps tight control of its distribution, so the honest Amazon buy for Bleu de Chanel is a sample vial, not a discounted full bottle — a too-cheap 'full size' listing of a designer this desirable is usually a fake. Sample it properly for a couple of dollars, decide if the smooth citrus-woody-incense signature is worth full-bottle money at a counter, and check the clones below before you commit.

Armaf Armaf Club de Nuit Blue Iconic

A Bleu-de-Chanel-shaped office scent at a third of the price

Armaf Club de Nuit Blue Iconic

Fresh / Woody AmberEDPReports vary — 2-7hYear-round
7.4/10

Grapefruit and lemon over a ginger-melon heart and a woody-amber base — the closest Armaf gets to the Bleu de Chanel shape. Reviewers put it nearer the EDT than the EDP, and it turns smokier and more powdery in the middle than the Chanel ever does. Longevity is the wildcard: owner reports swing from two hours to seven.

  • Lacks the depth people actually buy Bleu de Chanel for

Before you buy either one

Sample the Chanel, do not gamble on it

A 1.5 ml vial of the Parfum costs a rounding error against a full bottle and answers the only question that matters. This is the single highest-value purchase on this page, and it is why the vial is listed above rather than the full bottle. Our testing guide explains how to get a real answer out of it.

Know which Bleu you are looking at

There are four: the 2010 EDT, the 2014 EDP, the 2018 Parfum and the 2025 L'Exclusif. They are different fragrances with different ratings, and listings routinely blur them. Match the full product title before you buy — what is a flanker covers how this naming works across the industry.

Buy the volume you will actually finish

Dylan Blue is cheap enough per milliliter that the big bottle is the obvious buy. Bleu de Chanel is not, and a small bottle of something you wear twice a month is a better decision than a large one. Our sprays per bottle guide has the arithmetic.

Watch the seller on the Chanel

Blue designer bottles are among the most counterfeited fragrances sold online, and the Chanel more than the Versace. How to spot a fake covers the checks, and is Amazon cologne real covers which listings are worth trusting.

Dylan Blue gets pulled into one other comparison just as often, and the answer there runs the same way on value and the opposite way on longevity — Sauvage vs Dylan Blue.

How we picked

We do not run a testing lab — and we say so

Our rankings compile published note structures and concentration data, aggregate owner and community longevity and sillage reports, and apply a published rubric to every bottle — with first-hand impressions only where they're genuine. The scores are judgments from that research; they are not lab measurements, and we do not claim to have smelled every batch. Formulations change; where a claim came from someone else, we name and link them in Sources.

Questions

Frequently asked

Is Dylan Blue a Bleu de Chanel clone?

No. They share a color, a general fresh-woody territory and a lot of shelf adjacency, but the compositions are different — Dylan Blue is fruitier and sweeter around a fig-leaf and ambroxan core, while Bleu de Chanel is drier and smokier around incense and cedar. If you want an actual Bleu de Chanel clone, that is a different list.

Which lasts longer, Bleu de Chanel or Dylan Blue?

Parfumo's community longevity scores put Bleu de Chanel Parfum at 7.5 out of 10 across 2,758 ratings and Dylan Blue EDT at 7.2 across 4,229 — close, with the edge to the Chanel. Against the Bleu de Chanel EDT specifically, Dylan Blue is competitive. Individual reports on both range from four hours to twelve, which is normal and mostly reflects skin and dose.

Is Bleu de Chanel worth the extra money?

It is the better composition, and the community ratings agree by a modest margin. Whether that margin is worth several times the price is a question about your budget, not about the fragrances — which is why we recommend a sample vial before a full bottle rather than answering it for you.

Which Bleu de Chanel should I buy?

The Parfum. Fragrantica rates it 4.45 out of 5 against 4.18 for the original EDT, and Parfumo separates them on every performance axis. The EDT is the one most people are disappointed by.
